What is Young Farmers & Ranchers?
Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers are active agriculturists involved in production, banking, business, and many other areas of the agriculture industry, between the ages of 18 and 35. Young Farmers & Ranchers develop their leadership skills while volunteering their time as active, vital members of their county Farm Bureaus. As a member of Young Farmers and Ranchers, your voice will join those of your peers to speak out for agriculture. The Sonoma-Marin Young Farmers and Ranchers
participated in their annual fundraiser, Duck Spot
Bingo, on Saturday June 27, 2009 at the Sonoma-Marin
Fair. The Young Farmers sold 100 tickets for $10
each, with a chance to win $250. The event took
place during Farmer’s Day at the Rodeo Arena. A
special Thank You goes out to
4-H member Zachary Thode of Sebastopol for supplying
his winning duck for the activity. Walt Ryan, of
Ryan Ranch and also a Director of Sonoma County Farm
Bureau had the winning ticket and won the $250
prize.
Profits from the fundraiser go towards two annual
$500 scholarships awarded by the Young Farmers &
Ranchers group for students pursuing a degree in
agriculture. This year, the recipients of the YF&R
scholarships were Kelli Carstensen of Petaluma and
Lianne Nunes of Point Reyes. Both will be attending
Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo this fall to study Dairy
Science.
